In 1983, the brand Ulysse Nardin was purchased by Rolf W. Schnyder, its current chairman. Almost at the same time, Schnyder met Dr. Ludwig Oechslin, a superb scientist, inventor, historian and watchmaker. In a perfect blend of professional collaboration and personal friendship, Schnyder and Oechslin created unique watches. In 1985, Ulysse Nardin launched his trilogy of astronomical clocks. The first was the Astrolabium Galileo Galilei, followed by the Planetarium Copernicus and finally the Tellurium Johannes Kepler. The trilogy is a technical marvel that represents the whole solar system at the size of a wristwatch.
